Was it hard to be accepted into the program? What is the process?

Good question. It truly varies. When I first did the program, it only took about a week for me to get accepted. I believe that having the backing from MIT helped quite a bit, but I can't be sure.

After having talked to people in the program, I realized just how much longer other folks had to wait, unfortunately. Some had to wait months.

The treatment is so effective at McLean that I would recommend anyone who thinks they need it to apply no matter what.

My 23 yo son has debilitating OCD and I’ve begged him to seek help. Is it like an alcoholic? I just need to wait until he’s ready? As a parent it’s devastating to see him so tortured by his obsessive thoughts.

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you've already tried this, but I recommend finding a therapist that can see you and your son together. Maybe he would feel more comfortable with you there.

It could also be helpful to introduce him to books on OCD. That way, he can learn a bit more about what he may be dealing with.

Thanks for sharing! Do you know any severe OCD sufferers who struggled with recovery avoidance and then eventually engaged in treatment? Thanks!
